Eight Things to Enjoy After Dark in the Brecon Beacons

Most people come to the Brecon Beacons to make the most of our fabulous countryside. But when the day comes to an end, the fun doesn’t have to stop.

1. Listen out for the nightlife

Dusk can be a busy time in the natural world. As the sun sinks, starlings call and swirl in the sky before settling down to roost, while owls take flight and nightjars hunt for insects, churring softly. Walk along a waterside path on a summer’s evening, and you may hear otters whistling to each other. To find out more, visit our pages on wildlife-watching.

2. Treat yourself to dinner at an award-winning restaurant

Chances are you’ll have heard a bit about our reputation as a gourmet destination. And chances are, come the evening, you’ll have worked up a bit of an appetite. So now’s the time to put that reputation to the test. To find out more, visit our page on special places to eat and drink.

3. Catch a great show at Theatr Brycheiniog

Theatr Brycheiniog is a great place to enjoy live music and shows for all ages in 2018! And there’s plenty to enjoy in the evenings, especially with the new Waterfront Cafe’ new live music playing every weekend-and it’s free! Find out what’s on at Theatr Brycheiniog this month here.

4. Hear top-ranking jazz in Brecon

If you’re lucky enough to be in Brecon from the 10-12th of August, be sure to soak up some cool tunes at the Brecon Jazz Festival. You’ll have to be quick off the mark, though – many events sell out in advance. To find out more, visit our page on festivals.

5. Enjoy a pint with the locals at a cosy pub

What better way to wind up an action-packed day of hillwalking, canoeing or mountain biking than by relaxing in a traditional pub, with a pint of real ale in hand? Be our guest. To find out more, visit our page on pubs and inns.

6. Go stargazing in our Dark Sky Reserve

Our heavens are blessed with some of the UK’s darkest skies. . Or just step outside, look up, and prepare to be dazzled. Why not view one of nature’s finest shows: the Perseid meteor shower, live from the dark skies above the National Park. Experts from Dark Sky Wales will help you explore the heavens in their portable planetarium; view stars and planets through telescopes.
