What’s on at Theatr Brycheiniog?

Theatr Brycheiniog is a great place to enjoy live music and shows for all ages in 2018! Admire the paintings at the Taff Trail Trajectory Exhibiton, enjoy plenty of shows including Aladdin and the 21st annual Rorke’s Drift Concert, enjoy their live music and comedy clubs and there’s even the chance to meet Jimmy Osmond! The Taff Trail Trajectory – Fiona Harper Solo Exhibition

The exhibition runs from 19th January to 25th February.

A journey of paint – This exhibition is Fiona Harper’s personal journey as part of her enduring fascination with the beauty of the Taff Trail.

Fiona Harper’s work in progress is an insight into the darkest depths and broadest vistas that embrace the mountain trail. Her work encapsulates two Welsh valleys steeped in an industrial history both tragic and optimistic.

Youth Theatre 2018- Roundabout

You can now pay for sessions weekly via Box Office.

Theatr Brycheiniog Youth Theatre is the perfect introduction to theatre and drama for children and young people aged 4 and over. Your child will be encouraged to express themselves, develop confidence and build
creativity with fun, fast-moving sessions of games and exercises in an informal and friendly environment.

Sessions are run by professional drama practitioners and directors Sian Drinan and Julie Jones.

The Westenders- Aladdin Relaxed Performance

The Westenders are back at Theatr Brycheiniog after lasts year record breaking production of Peter Pan and this year they bring you their spectacular production of Aladdin! A show full of comedy, energetic musical numbers with mesmerising scenery and special effects.

This is an adaption of  their regular show to extend a warm welcome to anyone who might find it difficult to follow the usual conventions of theatre etiquette and especially those on the autistic spectrum, those who may make involuntary noises, or anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed environment.

During a relaxed performance House Lights are left on low and strobe lighting may be removed. Loud noises or explosions are either taken out entirely or reduced. The audience is free to go in and out as needed and latecomer rules are relaxed. Making noise during the performance is not discouraged. There are additional staff members on hand to assist as required and the cast and crew has awareness training before the performance.

Chill-out areas are provided for anyone who may become overwhelmed by the performance. The house will open earlier to give everyone plenty of time to get to their  seats. This is one magic Carpet ride that you don’t want to miss this January!

People with a learning or physical disability, autistic spectrum condition, or sensory or communication disorder are especially welcome. This performance is open to people of all ages

Bookworm Boogie

Come and join the Bookworm Boogie!

A brand new weekly session, perfect for babies and toddlers and parents and guardians too! Sarah KilBride, author of the Princess Evie book series, runs these fun and gentle sessions featuring a mixture of drama, stories, music, movement and art.

There will be juice available for children. Catch up with friends and have fun with your child in these imaginative and relaxed sessions.

Sessions will take place on the first floor in the Bar.

Tickets are £4.50 for a child and their parent or guardian. it is then just £3 per child if a parent / guardian brings more than one child. The £3 ticket can be purchased via Box Office.

Hailing from the Rhondda Valley in South Wales, singer, songwriter, composer and sometime television presenter Matthew Frederick blends a childhood love of the early works of Elton John and Billy Joel with more recent influences including Ben Folds, John Grant and Bon Iver to create a distinctive sound somewhere between Math-Folk and Cymrucana.

Robinsons & Wischhusen Duo / Voice and Guitar
Since forming in 2016, Beth Wischhusen (voice) and George Robinson (guitar) have developed a strong musical relationship, having performed all across South Wales and beyond and recently reaching the finals of the prestigious McGrenery Chamber Music Prize for outstanding chamber performance. With a mixture of folk and classical music this duo will be performing music by Britten, Schubert and a touch of solo guitar repertoire by Berkeley and Llobet.

Brecon Bites: Young Artists in Residence, a new partnership between Theatr Brycheiniog and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.
As the National Conservatoire of Wales, the college nurtures the next generation of artists, helping them to find their individual voice, and prepares them for successful careers. This project will bring some of the most exciting young graduate and undergraduate musicians and ensembles from the college to Brecon to present an entertaining and eclectic programme of monthly lunchtime concerts.

Spring Season Launch Night

We are thrilled to invite you to the official launch night of our Spring Season!

Come along for a free evening of entertainment, and discover more about what is in store for the theatre this spring. There will be talks from casts and directors, exclusive first look trailers and some preview performances! You will also have the opportunity to meet staff and members of our board.

The launch night will open with a performance by brass quintet, Blackweir Brass, who will play at Brecon Bites in March. Some of the exclusive featured shows will include Woman of FlowersJimmy OsmondAnd Finally… Phil Collins, and Ballet Central!

This event is free to attend but ticketed.

The Paintings & Watercolours of Ireland – Tom Duncan

The Arts Society Brecknock

The eighteenth century in Ireland was a relatively prosperous period compared to the difficulties of the preceding two hundred years. Creation of wealth led to demand for luxury goods – including landscape and portrait paintings.

Tom will explore the works of James Latham, Hugh Douglas Hamilton (the equal of any artist in England!), Thomas Roberts, William Ashford and others. From the mid nineteenth century until today, Irish painters mirror the main European movements. This talk will chart these movements in outline introducing images mostly unknown except to specialists.

From the Alps to Patagonia, Yosemite to Greenland, his is a story about all the things that make life amazing

Just Adele

Brecon born Christina Rogers and her super talented 9 piece band bring you ‘Just Adele’. This show is packed to the the brim with incredible songs, and with this powerhouse voice and full live band, you’d better be ready to singalong and clap your hands. 

The first half will transport you to an Adele concert experience, belting out the biggest Adele anthems such as ‘Hello’, ‘Someone like you’ and ‘Rolling in the Deep’. The voice and transformation is astounding, and Christina even manages to give you a sprinkling of that famous Adele charisma.

The second half of the show will consist of a varied programme of classic songs, modern songs with a twist, musical theatre and some fun surprises along the way. This will showcase Christina’s incredible vocal talents and give a sense of the music that shaped her into the artist she is today.

Christina has countless memories in Theatr Brycheiniog and she is over the moon to be performing here in her hometown. Together with her band, they have visited over 60 countries, but on this special night, there’s no place like home.

Woman of Flowers

I’ll create mayhem in men’s dreams and sunder the foundations of your ordered world.

Alone in a cold and alien world, rootless and without ties, Blodeuwedd isn’t like other women.

Conjured from wild flowers by the wizard Gwydion to be the perfect wife for the warrior prince Llew, she is the ideal woman and perfect in every way. But nature’s wild waves surge in her blood, and when the dark desires woven into her nature are awakened the consequences are bloody for all around her.

Based on the ancient Mabinogi legend of Blodeuwedd, Siôn Eirian skilfully combines Saunders Lewis’s Welsh language verse drama of the same name with original material to create a new version of this ancient tale of love, betrayal and retribution for a 21st century audience.

Running Time: Approx. 1 hours 20 minutes [no interval]
Age Suitability: 12+

Supported by the Welsh Government and the Arts Council of Wales through the National Performing Arts Touring Scheme.

Jimmy Osmond – Moon River and Me

Come and relive the dream with Jimmy Osmond singing the songs of Andy Williams!

Direct from the USA, the only official Andy Williams tribute show starring Jimmy Osmond.  This brand new show full of award-winning music, nostalgic footage and special memories of Andy Williams will touch your heart.

Jimmy will sing the songs that made Andy Williams so beloved by millions including Music To Watch Girls ByHappy Heart, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Almost There, May Each Day, Days Of Wine And Roses, and, of course, the song that was to become his theme tune, Moon River.

The youngest member of the world-famous Osmond family is joined by The Moon River Band with special guest stars Charlie Green and Emily Penny, and, naturally, a show with an Osmond would not be complete without some of the chart-topping hits that made Jimmy and his brothers famous. Tickets here.
