Party in the Park!

The Brecon Beacons National Park are inviting everyone to join in its 60th Anniversary celebrations at Party in the Park this Sunday 30th July, 11am-3pm. The party will take place at two venues; the National Park Visitor Centre near Libanus and Craig-y-nos Country Park. Entry is free and everyone is invited to pick one of the venues, bring a picnic and join in the celebrations.

At both venues National Park Authority staff will be hosting a range of activities for people to take part in. All activities are free but must be booked on the day at the welcome desk. Children can decorate their own 60th Anniversary cupcake and families can join in arts and crafts activities including bunting decorating and badge making. People can have a go at orienteering at Craig-y-nos or geocaching at the Visitor Centre, take a walk with a warden or try pond dipping. Craig-y-nos will have a super fun zip-wire for children, a fibreglass cave,  family games on the meadow and a chance to learn more about your dog with local dog trainer and behaviourist Theresa Toomey. At the Visitor Centre there will be daytime stargazing through Solar telescopes with Cardiff Astronomical Society and a chance to visit the Planetarium with Dark Sky Wales. The Beacons View Tea Room at the Visitor Centre will be open for visitors to purchase food and will be running a BBQ in the grounds. At Craig-y-nos the Changing Seasons Restaurant will be open for food, drinks and ice-creams. Visitors will also get to see the very special 60th Anniversary touring photographic portrait exhibition, Diamond People, featuring people from across the Brecon Beacons who have made a difference to the National Park.

Mel Doel, Brecon Beacons National Park Authority Chairman said;

“We look forward to welcoming people from far and wide to help us mark this significant anniversary of our National Park. With it also being National Parks week it’s a double celebration of everything great about our protected landscapes. It’s the people and the communities that make the Brecon Beacons so special and who have helped shape the park to make it the unique place that it is today . We hope as many people as possible join us and we welcome everybody to our Party in the Park this weekend.”
