We have lots of Christmas markets and fairs happening in communities right across the Brecon Beacons, it’s a perfect way to get in the mood for Christmas and start your shopping- let the festivities begin!
Here’s our round up of all the events happening from now until Christmas.
Hay On Wye Winter Food Festival- 25-27 Nov
There is an exciting array of events lined up for you including Ben Fogle on Land Rovers, Daisy Goodwin on Victoria and Nic Compton on the shipping forecast. Laugh your Christmas socks off with Mark Watson stand-up, the Scummy Mummies talking about less than perfect parenting and Andy Hamilton on his Star Witness novel.
Dance away the Winter chills with The Ben Baddoo Afrobeat Band or simply cuddle up and listen to Flauguissimo Duo or Nuala Honan. Over the weekend the Box Office is in The Swan Hotel, where books by all the authors are available in the Festival Bookshop. We also have five great exhibitors with more gift ideas – Black Mountain Roast, Farmers’ Welsh Lavender, National Trust, RSPB Cymru and the Woodland Trust. We look forward to seeing you here.
Brecon with Bells On-26th November
Brecon Town Council presents… Brecon With Bells On – a Christmas Extravaganza of festive stalls, music, entertainment, free fairground activities, a treasure hunt, panto characters, street food, a busking competition and lots more, all taking place in Brecon on 26th November 10am – 8pm.
The Christmas Tree lights and the town lights will be switched on at 7pm by a very special guest – details to follow! Save the date
Royal Welsh Winter Fair-28-29 November
Come and celebrate Christmas and witness the finest prime stock show in Europe at this year’s Royal Welsh Winter Fair. There will be a fireworks display, Cookery, produce, handicraft, poultry, horticulture, floral art and meat products competitions, as well as plenty of Christmas gifts to choose from and a Santas grotto for the kids! Away from the judging rings the very best of Welsh food producers will be showcasing their produce and Christmas shoppers can explore the hundreds of tradestands, demonstrations and exhibitions, and festive atmosphere. Llandeilo Edwardian Christmas Fayre at Dinefwr-26th November
There’s festive fun for everyone at The Llandeilo Traditional Christmas Fayre at Dinefwr on the weekend of the 26th November from 10 till 6 – a mansion and courtyard filled with gift ideas and special treats. Whatever the weather, you can enjoy choirs and bands in the courtyard and festive entertainment in Newton House. Plus, Santa will be there both days and there’s free mulled wine and mince pies for everyone! Info here
Totally Locally Crickhowell Christmas Market and Late Night Opening- 1st December
Join in the Festive cheer with this Christmas market. All your favourite local shops, crafters, food producers and community groups in one place, full of festive cheer to get the season off to the best of starts.

Aberglasney Winter Fair-2-4th December
A must-do of the Christmas season! For two days of December, Aberglasney’s Mansion and two specially brought-in marquees are packed with around 100 stalls of crafts, gifts, homeware and decorations as well as fine foods to both enjoy on the day and take home.
On the Saturday and Sunday, the Gardens will be filled with festive song and music thanks to performances by a range of live local choirs and bands, which you can listed to and watch whilst enjoying your complimentary mulled wine (or spiced apple juice) and mince pie. Schedule and more info here.
Christmas at Chapel Cottage Studio-2-4th December
Avoid the cues at the check outs and get ahead with your Christmas Shopping at Chapel Cottage Studio’s Christmas Exhibition and Gift Fair!You will find a varied exhibition of affordable art work by Jantien Powell as well as several of the talented tutors and students of the Studio including original paintings, prints and greetings cards.
Add to this an eclectic mix of locally made crafts and gifts including pieces by Bowerbird Bears, Fauxidermy, Jewellery by Rosemary Cochrane, beautiful felted pieces by Sarah Goodgame (Little Bird), wire sculptures, handmade Christmas Decorations, paper craft and much more and it’s the perfect place to pick up that special something.
Of course being Chapel Cottage Studio, there will also be yummy home made mince pies on offer as well as tea, coffee and Christmassy drinks! Why not take your mince pie up into the cosy Shepherds Hut to enjoy the view?
As if this wasn’t enough to tempt you out to Llanddewi Rhydderch, just 500 metres down the road Jan Thomas will be holding her own Christmas Shopping weekend at the wonderful Textiles at the Weir. Jan will have a unique range of gifts on offer, including Gwlan Y Fenni wollen items produced from the fleece of their own Coloured Ryeland Sheep, as well as textile landscapes, cards and gift vouchers for her textile courses.

Brecon Farmers Market-10th December
Local produce for excellent Christmas presents and festivities! A huge range of food and gift ideas, from local producers – we’ll even have Santa in his Groto! Live music, and a cafe provided by Love at First Bake! Info here
Abergavenny Christmas Food and Drink Fair- 11th December
The Abergavenny Christmas Food and Drink Fair returns on Sunday 11th December 2016, where we’ll have everything you need to get into the festive spirit. Why not start things off with a tasting of festive cocktails from master mixologist, Dom Jacobs on Saturday evening?
Entry to our Christmas venues is just £5 per adult. You will find:

Christmas Food Fair at the National Botanic Gardens of Wales-17-18th December
Indulge yourself in some seasonal Christmas treats at the National Botanic Garden’s popular Christmas Food Fair on December 17th and 18th. The stunning Great Glasshouse is the venue for this celebration of local food and drink and there is certainly something for everyone among the festive offerings in the largest single-span glasshouse on the planet.
Okay, the crackers may be savoury but they are delicious – guaranteed! And there will be plenty of specialist cheese, chutney, hot chili sauce and a wide range of relishes to put on them.
The Christmas Food Fair takes place in the National Botanic Garden of Wales on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th from 10am-4.30pm, both days.
