Brecon Women’s Festival 2016

Brecon Women’s Festival 2016 begins this Friday 4 March. The official festival launch takes place at at the Andrew Lamont Gallery Theatr Brycheiniog with the opening of this year’s exhibition by bestselling author and foraging guru Adele Nozedar. This year’s Festival Art Show features work by more than 30 female artists from the area on the theme of Refuge and includes paintings, drawings, textiles and sculpture. The exhibition is now one of the most popular events of the annual festival and will run until Saturday 26 March.

Saturday March 5th

10am-4pm-St Marys Church
Brecon Womens Festival Fayre-Discover unique local talent and high quality arts and crafts at this lovely annual fayre.

3:30-5:30pm-The Muse, Glamorgan Street, Brecon
takepART Exhibition: ‘pARTicipate’
An exhibition of artwork from ‘takepART’ members abd the cildren from the Infantry Battle School at Dering Lines. (Supported by the Sustainable Development Fund-Brecon Beacons National Park Authority)

6:30-8pm-The Muse, Glamorgan Street, Brecon
Burlesque for Beginners

Nearly New Sale-A sale of ‘nearly new’ baby equipment, maternity clothes and children’s toys with refreshments. Entry £1. Organised by Brecon Breastfeeding Support Group.

8pm-Jazz at the Wellington Hotel, Bulwark (In partnership with Brecon Jazz Club)
Tamasin  Reardon Band-Savour the lovely, lyrical sounds of the Alto Sax from leading jazz instrumentalists Tamasin Reardon, who leads this band of musicians ahead of their Summer Tour. This event features guitar, double bass and drums and you can expect your favourite jazz standards along with some Latin and Swing Classics. Please reserve a table if you are planning to eat.

Monday March 7th

7.30 – 9pm – The Muse Brecon
Alive & Kickin’ Community Choir Brecon Open Rehearsal/Sharing. Join the Alive & Kickin’ Community Choir for an open rehearsal/sharing to celebrate IWD & BWF and hear the choirs’ repertoire of humorous warm ups, songs from around the world and original material. It’s also an opportunity to find out more about this popular local choir, if you’ve ever fancied giving it a try. (Free event with tea, coffee and cakes on sale).

Tuesday March 8th

12.30 – 3.30pm – The Muse, Brecon
Creative Craft Workshop with Calan DVS. 
You and your family are invited to join Calan DVS to make a collective statement about the life of women. This will be a fun activity involving cutting out from magazines, sticking and, of course, your imagination to celebrate your lives. You are welcome to come for all or part of the celebratory workshop. Tea and coffee will be served.

Wednesday March 9th

7pm – The Hours Cafe & Bookshop, Ship Street, Brecon
‘Women and Words’ Open Mic An opportunity for Poets, Writers and Musicians to share new work or work by someone they admire in an informal and supportive setting. All welcome incl men! Bar available. Free entry

Book Launch – Holly Muller ‘ My Own Dear Brother’
