On the 14th of September 55 teams of four will be completing the 33 mile Canalathon route by canoe, bike and on foot.
Starting off at Pontymoile Basin and tackling the five-mile canoe to Goyre Wharf followed by a 17 mile bike ride to Llangynidr and finishing up with an 11 mile walk or run to the Brecon Canal Basin.
The first team will push off at 8:01am with subsequent teams following with one minute intervals. The final team will be heading off at 8:55am and then you’ll see everyone at the finish line.
Geraint Hopkins, Chairmen of Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, will be presenting the participants with medals after they complete the challenge.
When the Canalathon ends the day isn’t over. A musical extravaganza has been organised to celebrate the end of the challenge and to congratulate those who took part in the event. There will be seven bands and artists playing hour long sets kicking off at 1pm.
1pm – Copper and Co
2pm – Tell Tale
7pm – Mike and Johnny Bird
Even if you’re not competing, come down to the new Canalathon and support your local community members. Enjoy food and refreshments during and after the event and relax for the day with some awesome tunes in the Brecon Beacons.
