Monmouthshire & Brecon are to hold their first ever Canalathon on Sunday 14th September! The 33 mile route will see teams of four canoe, cycle and walk/run the distance of the tranquil canal that passes through the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park.
Starting at Pontymoile Basin, teams will be expected to paddle their way through the first 5 miles of the course by canoe. On collecting bikes from Goytre Wharf, a 17 mile slug can commence as competitors breeze alongside the canal. The challenge will close with an 11 mile walk or run from Llangynidr to cross the finish line at Brecon Canal Basin.
If you’re the outdoorsy type and are looking for something to set your mind to, why not get together with three friends to participate in some seriously healthy competition? Entry fees are only £120 per team or £30 per person, you simply need to drop off and collect your own bikes at the starting and finishing points. Canoes will be provided. Teenagers as young as 12 are welcome to join but must be accompanied by one adult per entrant.
There will also be plenty for spectators and supporters to do along the canal on the day, visit www.mbact.org.uk to find out more as the event draws closer.
