Wow, it seems this weekend is THE time for fairs as we have not one, two , three, four but FIVE to choose from! Whether you’re an art lover, part of a big family or just fancy some good old homemade cakes, take your pick from these…
1. Arts Alive Affordable Art Fair – 6th December 2013
The annual Winter Gathering craft fair offers a hand-picked selection of the region’s talented artists and makers such as Daniel Tomlinson, Lee Wright and Llynfi Textiles . The art studio will be transformed for the evening with seasonal greenery and twinkling lights creating a magical experience for all. Live folk music and a glass of mulled wine will be awaiting guests and there’s the chance to purchase calendars featuring stunning images from their installations at the Abergavenny Food Festival!
2. Penpont House Christmas Fair – 7th – 8th December 2013
Bring the kids to choose carefully for that all important new addition to the house – this year’s Christmas tree! Some will be ready cut, and others growing in the nearby plantation for you to choose and cut your own.
Artisans and crafts people living and working on the Estate will be showcasing their wares and a number of stalls will be offering a wide range of quality and unique treasures. Some made locally and some collected from more exotic corners of the world featuring textiles, jewellery, antiques, books, and artwork. So have a rummage and see what you can find!
For the first time there will also be craft workshops – Amanda from Wyldwood Baskets will be demonstrating how to make willow stars as well as lantern building workshops.
Delicate wooden doves will be for sale along with other lovely products made from timber collected from the estate woodlands. Don’t miss the hot chestnuts that will be roasting ready for a nibble!
Local musicians Alan Cooper and Simon Newcombe will be playing their wonderful modern Celtic music over the entire weekend.
