Gildas Music’s Brecon Debut

This Friday The Hours Cafe & Bookshop in Brecon welcome singer Gildas Music aka Arwel Lloyd for an evening of soothing acoustic tunes with all proceeds going to Cancer Research UK.

Lloyd is originally from Llansannan and now works as a primary school teacher in Llanelli. When he’s not reciting sums and checking spelling mistakes he focuses on writing and performing his music along with his trusty guitar.  The stage name ‘Gildas’ stems from the story of the Welsh monk who pilgrimaged across Wales in the sixth century and kept a diary of his travels. In the same way, Gildas Music is voyaging down the country on his own quest to raise money this summer, cycling from North Wales to the South and stopping off to perform at various venues along the way.

Lloyd began as the guitarist/co-writer for Al Lewis’ band but is continuing to succeed in his solo career with his second album Sgwennu Stori (Write a Story). Lloyd cites Nick Drake and Chet Atkins among his influences with an emphasis on delicate fingerpicking and touching lyrics which masterfully combine folk with electronic music.

This event is perfect for a relaxing summer evening and a great way to kick-start the up-coming Fringe and Jazz weekends. So come along and enjoy an evening of fantastic live music to support this worthwhile cause.
