Here is a wonderful opportunity to see one of the greatest knitters in the world.
Ingrid Wagner and her Big Knit Needles are making a special visit to the Erwood Station Craft Centre, Builth Wells on the weekend of 27th & 28th April 2013. A demo & selling exhibition plus a Big Knitting workshop are all on track for the weekend.
London born painter and textile artist, Ingrid, who has also lived in Russia and Poland, holds the Guinness Record for knitting with the largest needles in the world. The needles are 4m in length, 8cm diameter and will be on show during the weekend. Ingrid’s unorthodox and ecological approach to knitting is causing a stir in the home interiors market and has been featured on BBC, ITV & Sky television.
Big Knitting is a contemporary approach to a traditional craft and is a must for recession hit Britain, accurately reflecting the resurgence of interest in ‘making your own’. Fast, fun and definitely different, the technique is perfect for the impatient. It combines big needles and big yarn, enabling the production of high quality interior textiles in a short amount of time. Pouffes take just 5 hours, sofa throws and rugs just 4 and cushions can be made in 2 hours. All the fabulous textiles which will be on display are available in kit form for visitors to buy & create for themselves.
And this all ticks the green credential boxes too. Ingrid’s 3 sizes of Big Knit needles (400mm – 1.2m length, 25 – 30mm diameter), feature ash hardwood shanks and a beautiful variety of European exotic hardwoods for the ends, all sourced from sustainable forests and manufactured for Ingrid in the UK. Ingrid’s Big Knit Yarn is the recycled 1 inch selvedge of industrial woven wool + cashmere waste fabric which comes with colour & pattern already woven in The ‘yarn’ is brought in from mills in the UK, France and Italy. Ingrid personally selects colours for clients who can commission a textile, buy a finished piece or purchase the needles and yarn in kit form to create their own home textiles for themselves – an increasingly popular option. Limited edition bedcovers and curtains are constructed from larger discarded sections of manufacturers’ weaving.
“I’m excited about the Craft Centre selling exhibition,” says Ingrid. “I always look for unique places to host selling exhibitions and what better place than a converted 19th century railway carriage in such a fabulous Centre dedicated to the promotion of artists and their work? We already have a loyal customer following in Wales and we’d love to introduce this fun & fast approach to knitting to others who haven’t yet had the pleasure of discovering it.”
Ingrid will be hosting an introductory Big Knitting workshop on Sunday 28th April 10 – 12.30pm. 10 places are available and the cost is £25 per person.
The Big Knitting Craft Centre exhibition weekend coincides with the Wonderwool show being held at the Royal Welsh Showground at Builth Wells. A feast of wool all round.
