Next year’s Hay Festival will run from 23 May to 2 June 2013. They are offering earlybird advance tickets today (29th November) for five special events.
John le Carré will appear for the first time at Hay in an extended interview, discussing his career and writing with Philippe Sands. On the day Lord Leveson reports on the UK press we’re thrilled to announce that legendary Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein will reflect on investigative journalism and the resonant American anniversaries of Gettysburg (150), Vietnam (40) and JFK’s assasination (50).
Turkish novelist Elif Shafak wowed the 2012 festival with her magical, four-minute contribution to the Charity Gala on the ‘Ghost G’ of the Turkish alphabet (listen to it again here). She will be developing this beautiful idea into the 2013 Raymond Williams Lecture.
And two festival favourites return to Hay with their new shows – Folk hero Christy Moore and the comedian and science champion Dara Ó Briain. Here, as a festive bonus is Christy Moore’s sublime cover of Shane McGowan’s Fairytale of New York. Bliss.
In the meantime, don’t forget about the Hay Festival Winter Weekend which starts tomorrow (30th November).
