Come to Hay-on-Wye this winter and discover a feast of festive magic for the whole family at Hay Winter Festival Weekend.

From the 30th of November to the 2nd of December, Hay-on-Wye will host the annual Hay Winter Festival Weekend, three days of festive fun for the whole family in one of Wales’ most famous destinations.

Events will be taking place at venues throughout the town and will includePeople enjoying Hay Winter Festival musical acts, comedy and performance, as well as a number of fascinating workshops for kids and a Christmas shopping happy hour with as much mulled wine and mince pies as you can shake a Yuletide log at.

Stick around and you’ll get to see the Christmas lights being turned on, plus there’s a local arts and crafts market where you’ll be able to pick up all manner of gifts and treats crafted by local people while reveling in Christmas cheer.

The programme of events kicks off on November the 30th with the festival ceilidh, during which Herefordshire’s twenty-piece Bandemonium band will guide guests through a night of country dancing and high spirits. Other highlights include…

Craft courses at Hay Winter FestivalChristmas Crafts – From finger-print robins to glittering garlands, Richard Booth’s bookshop will be a centre for all things artsy and festive. Pop in any time between 10am and 12pm on Saturday 1st of December and you could even get your face painted and join in with a competition or two! £2 donation for materials.

Ben Fogle, The Accidental Naturalist – Saturday will also see Ben Fogle describing his personal relationship with animals, from the family dogs, Liberty and Lexington, to Milly the puma-sized cat, Jaws the goldfish and three very charismatic parrots. £6 per person.

Emma Kennedy, The Killing Handbook – A hilarious and essential guide to award-winning Danish crime thriller The Killing from actress, broadcaster and Celebrity Masterchef winner Emma Kennedy. This superfan guide will take you through everything from characters and plots to the famous fashion choices. £6 per person.

Hay Castle

Head over to this picturesque town and you’ll also find that Hay Castle is opening its doors for the first time in hundreds of years. You’ll be able to take a guided tour with Friends of Hay Castle on both Saturday and Sunday, with tickets including coffee and cake, as well as a wander around the beautiful building.
