“Fire and Fibre” Exhibition and Weekend Celebration of the “Big Draw”
Starting Saturday 6th October – 27th November 2012
This weekend sees some World Class art appear in Crickhowell…
The Oriel CRiC Gallery has brought together an unusual selection of stained glass, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, printmaking, traditional ironwork, original paintings and jewellery in its current autumn exhibition aptly entitled “Fire and Fibre”.
Exhibitions co-ordinator Suzette Pratten said, “Our changing exhibition programme affords us the opportunity to showcase inspiring work by both local and visiting artists. We are therefore delighted to support the Campaign for Drawing’s aim: to get everyone drawing by offering a free ‘Come Draw with me’ session with local artist Lucy Corbett on Saturday 6 October(booking required). We have embraced Paul Klee’s famous description of drawing as ‘taking a line for a walk’ and hope that many visitors will do just that in Crickhowell by either enjoying the exhibition or joining in with the creative events.”
Rebecca Spooner, Arts Development Manager at Arts Alive Wales added, “We are very pleased to be working collaboratively with the Oriel CRiC Gallery to celebrate the Big Draw, thereby joining with people across the world in engaging in creative activities. Artist Lynette Margerison will be responding to CRiC’s exhibition theme of ‘Fire and Fibre’ between 11 and 4 on Saturday – encouraging all to draw fire breathing dragons at our free event aimed at all ages and all levels. There will also be an exciting meeting of Welsh and Chinese dragons, as we will be welcoming visiting artists from China to the Arts Alive studio.”
