What’s on in the Brecon Beacons: October

October has finally arrived and here in the Brecon Beacons National Park we couldn’t be happier. Autumn has crept up and the park has been transformed.  The countryside and mountains are slowly turning into a glorious colour of red and orange, bringing a new look to the area.
To embrace autumn here is a round-up of some of the great events taking place that celebrate the beauty and culture of the area…

Brecon Beacons Food Festival – 6 October 2012
Venue is the Market Hall. This is a foody treasure with a celebrity chef cook off, loads of stalls with lovely local ingredients and gorgeous grub to take home, local cider, and beer. Contact information: Market Hall, Brecon, Powys, LD3 7LG

Stargazing at the Country Park – 6 October 2012
Experience this spectacle through specialist telescopes and a portable planetarium in the unique historic setting of Craig-y-nos Country Park. Enjoy delicious refreshments, available throughout the event at the Park’s Changing Seasons Cafe. Wales World Trade Fair – 6 & 7 October 2012
Fair/ethically traded goods from around the world. Zimbabwean food, dancing and drumming. Live music from Chrys Blanchard’s Abercapella, Martha’s Reeds and one fella, Stainless Steve and Irish folk music. Contact information: Guildhall, Brecon, Powys, LD3 7AL

Hay Walking Festival – 11 – 15 October 2012
Highlights include a foraging walk for families, exploring the botany of the Digedi valley, the archaeology of the Begwns or the geology of the Stanner rocks. There are some long treks in the Black Mountains, as well as opportunities to walk one way and return to Hay by canoe or bicycle. Beacons Circuit – 20 October 2012
Take in all the high points of the Brecon Beacons on this walk over Corn Du and Pen y Fan. Learn a little about glacial formations and local history along the way. Contact information: 01874 623366, Storey Arms car park A470, 8 miles south of Brecon, LD3 8NL
