Brecon Beacons Shopping Highlight: A Unique Fashion Label Business

The Brecon Beacons is well known for its World class attractions, activities and foods but did you know it is also home to a top class fashion and clothing label.  Llynfi Textiles design and make their own unique style of clothing often from the resources around them….  Here’s a lovely insight to a Brecon Beacons based clothes maker to look out for.  We’re sure you’ll be seeing them on the catwalks of Paris, Milan and New York sometime in the near future!

Hand made women’s clothing, using natural and sustainable materials and dyes.

Llynfi produces an evolving collection, born from a lifelong love of dress, design and a need to create, but a reluctance to become part of the fashion industry.

“We are about connecting people with how their clothes come to be – from farm to mill to studio shop. Our wool fabric is woven at one of the last Welsh flannel mills, and the wool for our Wensleydale knitwear is grown on a farm in Carmarthenshire. Scattered through the collection are highlights of silk and cotton from family weavers in India.”

Mother and daughter, Sue and Emily James, have built a growing collection inspired by the materials they use and art of manipulating them into desirable, wearable pieces. Llynfi was certified by the Soil Association in 2007 for dyeing with natural dyes and making knitwear, and were finalists in 2012 Natural and Organic European Awards.

Designed and made in Talgarth, the collection is available online at and at various shows and events throughout the year. Details of these are posted on the Llynfi Blog and Facebook pages.

The next event will be a ‘pop-up’ shop on the 2nd and 3rd June in Hay on Wye (Castle Lane) and open studio as part of the Crickhowell Art Trail (2nd – 5th June).
